“Searchlight” sounds like a band moving beyond what they thought they could do; it uses violins, pedal steel guitar, together with soft acoustic layers to honour the songs that shaped them. As Brent said directly about the song’s meaning:
Searchlight is a song about owning your true feelings. It’s an awakening of the soul. Lyrically, it is a coming-of-age story that celebrates the moment you decide to go out into the world, and find your purpose. Musically, it is an homage to all the music our parents and grandparents brought us up on. It is a love letter to Americana, Rhythm and Blues, Bluegrass, Outlaw Country and of course Rock ‘n’ Roll. The creative process for this song was quite a journey, and we hope all the ‘Fans/Family’ feel that authenticity in every note and every word.
In our chat at Download Festival 2025, Barry Kerch also shared honestly about the band still working out what comes next. What stood out most was his reason for the delay on the new album. He kept it short, saying:
“We haven’t quite finished it yet, and we’re never going to put anything out there that we really didn’t feel was cohesive and together.”
This focus on unity and truth appears in each lyric. Rather than centering on confusion, “Searchlight” emphasizes learning to move ahead by relying on your own judgment instead of waiting for approval.
