Glastonbury Festival organizer Emily Eavis has responded to criticism surrounding the 2024 line-up, which some fans have perceived as lacking in rock acts on the main stages.

This year’s headliners include dance-pop artist Dua Lipa, pop-rock band Coldplay, US R&B star SZA, and country-pop icon Shania Twain in the legends slot. The main stages will also feature performances by artists such as Little Simz, Burna Boy, Disclosure, Jungle, and The Streets.

I think the line-up reflects what’s happening in the music world at the moment – there aren’t a lot of new rock acts to choose from if I’m honest. Hopefully, that will emerge again, my heyday was 1995 with Pulp and Oasis and Radiohead – and that was great, but music changes all the time and right now this is where we’re at.

Every year, we’ve been criticised for being too rock, too grime, too hip hop, too pop – it’s just part of our year. Generally, it’s not from the public – everybody’s really happy and excited to be here.

Previous editions of Glastonbury have showcased a variety of genres on its main stages, ranging from rock-oriented headliners like Arctic Monkeys and Guns N’ Roses to pop acts such as Billie Eilish and Paul McCartney.

Despite the current emphasis on other genres, rock enthusiasts attending this year’s festival can still enjoy performances by Skidnred, Heilung, Delilah Bon and Nothing But Thieves.
