Sci-Fi Drama and Sonic Intensity
Calva Louise consists of Jess Allanic from Venezuela on vocals, guitar, and keyboards, Alizon Taho from France on bass and backing vocals, and New Zealander Ben Parker on drums and backing vocals. ‘Under the Skin’ was co-written with Pendulum’s Gareth McGrillen, and features a compelling mix of metal riffs, electronica, and versatile vocals, ranging from ethereal to intense howls.
The video introduces a complex Sci-Fi narrative, a conceptual story involving characters and their counterparts known as the Doubles. Jess Allanic explains:
“The lyrics deal with the obstacles that arise between them as one is looking for freedom and the other is looking to perpetuate their consciousness, but the expectations are not the same for both sides.”
Directed and edited by Jess Allanic, the video is a Sci-Fi short film that explores themes of parallel dimensions and the quest to extend consciousness beyond the physical realm.
This duality concept is also explored through the lore of their music, depicting a battle for life energy between avatars known as Travellers and their Doubles, against hybrids that are part organic and part machine. This narrative extends to involve Commanders working to bridge these worlds, as described in the songs ‘THIRD CLASS CITIZEN’ and ‘SQUARE ONE‘.
Upon signing with Mascot Records, the band states:
We are honoured to be part of the Mascot family, and with their help, we hope to keep developing a high level of immeasurable value for the distribution and promotion of our music around the world through a unique sound for our next album and for our live shows.
