Today, February 5th, marks a significant milestone in the career of esteemed guitarist Kerry King. He has officially unveiled the lineup of his new solo band, announced his inaugural album since his tenure with Slayer, and released a formidable lead single titled “Idle Hands.” (Listen Below)
For several years, King, a renowned figure in the thrash metal genre, has hinted at the formation of a new band following Slayer’s disbandment in 2019. In 2022, he confirmed the involvement of former Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph, while maintaining secrecy about the remaining band members.
Slayer’s Kerry King Returns
The composition of this highly anticipated supergroup has now been disclosed. In an interview with Rolling Stone, it was revealed that King and Bostaph are accompanied by guitarist Phil Demmel, previously of Machine Head and briefly part of Slayer’s 2018 touring lineup, Hellyeah bassist Kyle Sanders (brother of Mastodon’s Troy Sanders), and vocalist Mark Osegueda from the renowned band Death Angel. This ensemble, primarily originating from the Bay Area thrash scene, collaborates on King’s debut solo album, aptly titled “From Hell I Rise,” slated for release this spring.

The album, produced by esteemed producer Josh Wilbur, known for his work with Korn, Avenged Sevenfold, and Lamb of God, is a project that King has likened to an “extension of Slayer” in terms of its musical style.
With the release of the lead single “Idle Hands,” listeners are afforded a preview of the album, showcasing King’s signature fast-paced and intense thrash style.
King, in his interview with Rolling Stone, said, “‘Idle Hands’ are what I’ve been doing the last four years. That and ‘From Hell I Rise’ have been my frame of mind in the last four-and-a-half years.”
Discussing the band’s name, King explained, “It was going to be King’s Reign for a long time, which is really cool. But even with that one, I went to the guys, like, ‘I’m not a vain dude. I don’t want my name to be a part of it.’ We talked about Blood Reign for a while, but it didn’t work. Every time I came up with anything remotely cool, it was taken by some obscure band in Eastern Europe. It became Kerry King because I love that logo.”
The highly anticipated album “From Hell I Rise” is expected to be released on May 17th.
