Knocked Loose have released their new song “Hive Mind” (feat. Denzel Curry), and it feels less like a standalone single and more like a statement of intent.
This is a band that has spent the last decade pushing themselves into rooms they were never expected to fill; only to pack them out every single time. Back in June 2023 we spoke to frontman Bryan Garris about their now infamous Coachella appearance and breaking into mainstream culture:
We infiltrated a place where we didn’t belong, we represented, and it worked; it was awesome.
That mentality runs straight through “Hive Mind”.
Out Of Place, On Purpose
Knocked Loose have always thrived on discomfort; From Pop Culture to Laugh Tracks and A Different Shade of Blue, they have leaned into the idea that heavy music isn’t just a sound, but an opportunity for confrontation. Garris put it simply to us:
We love doing things out of our comfort zone and when it translates that well it just makes us feel like we can do anything and we can play anywhere.
We’ve played festivals that we fit in a lot more than we did at Coachella and got a way worse response. I feel like we’ve always looked at these festivals like an opportunity to play in front of new people and try to convert them. Every single one of these big major outdoor festivals whether it be Rock leaning or whether it be like Pop leaning, it is a coin toss and we’ve always viewed it that way.
“Hive Mind” weaponizes that philosophy. “Do you feel shame when you’re all alone?” opens the track with a sense of cruelty, its not aimed at outsiders but instead at anyone hiding behind consensus.
The chorus is blunt – “Hive mind / Bite your tongue, change your face” and reads like an instruction manual for social survival in the algorithmic era. For many, bringing in Denzel Curry would be a shock move, but for Knocked Loose it’s something to be expected, as Garris stated in the press release
This is something we’ve talked about doing for a long time. We wondered if we could pull it off and who would be down. In the very beginning, we said for it to work, it would have to be Denzel Curry. Because he gets it.
Curry’s line “When you don’t follow the trend, you getting crucified” underlines the theme of the song, and breakdown chants of “Jump when they say jump” feels like satire until you realise how often we all comply under societal pressure.

Knocked Loose – Hive Mind (feat. Denzel Curry) Lyrics In Full
Defiance In A Conforming World
So what is the meaning behind Knocked Loose’s ‘Hive Mind’ (feat. Denzel Curry)? Its not just about trend culture, but about resisting the instinct to dilute yourself for acceptance; something that has always run deep into the identity of hardcore and metal fans.
Knocked Loose have built their reputation by walking into unfamiliar spaces and refusing to soften their sound just to fit in, ultimately “Hive Mind” is the sound of that refusal.
