Primordial Radio is excited to release our special with Motionless In White frontman Chris Motionless.

In this new interview, Chris speaks in depth about how the band built a cult-following, selling out their most recent UK tour, and how they overcame some of the biggest struggles as a band to be as successful as they are today.

Chris shared how things used to be in the early days, cramming into freezing vans and how surreal it feels now to be doing these full-scale production shows in Europe. He also talked honestly about the pressure artists are under these days, and how staying real – both musically and emotionally is something he won’t compromise on.

He also talked about the current progress of their new album, what it was like for Motionless In White to perform at WWE’s Wrestlemania for Rhea Ripley, advice for new bands, and thoughts on Sleep Token headlining Download Festival 2025.

New Motionless In White Album

Speaking about the progress on the new Motionless In White album, Chris stated:

Yeah, we’ve been working on it all last year. We did the US headlining version of this tour in the fall of, geez, what year was it, 23? That ended, and I went right into working on the record. I worked on it through last year and into this year.

I’m just taking my time. We’re taking our time with it. I don’t want to feel like I had to push the record out. And I have felt that way. I’ve talked about it – there’s that pressure to get more stuff out, more consistently, or fans are going to leave you behind and forget about you. But I’ve kind of moved on from that.

I feel the most secure just taking your time and doing the record you want to do. At the end of the day, you’ll at least be happy with it no matter what happens. That’s where I’m at. We’re going to go back in after this tour, work for a couple of months, and see what happens. When it’s out, it’s out. But it is definitely being worked on. I’d say the bulk of it is good to go, and I’m very excited about it.

From Wrestlemania to Download Festival

If playing to a packed room is one thing, performing on a global stage like WrestleMania is another entirely. In 2024, the band was invited to perform the entrance for WWE Superstar Rhea Ripley a moment Chris describes as surreal but also deeply personal.

Honestly, I wasn’t thinking about the millions of people watching. My only thought was, ‘I want Rhea to be proud of this.’ That was it. Just make her feel like the superhero she is.” Watching the footage back, with Rhea owning the ring and the music swelling behind her, he admits, “It just felt epic. That’s what I wanted.

Attention also turned to Download Festival, a staple of the UK rock scene and a benchmark for many bands. With Sleep Token’s meteoric rise and bands like Bring Me The Horizon now headlining, is a Motionless In White top slot realistic?

I don’t think we’re sitting around saying, ‘We gotta headline Download.’ It’s more like, we’re working, we’re growing. If it takes another 10 years, then fine – we’ll look back at this chat and laugh. That’s what I’ve always loved about this band. It’s been a slow burn. The wins feel more meaningful that way.

Building Longevity in a Fast-Paced World

Three years on from their last album Scoring The End of the World, the band is deep into writing its follow-up. But there’s no rush. Chris is adamant about not bowing to the pressure of content culture.

There’s this looming feeling that if you don’t keep putting stuff out, people will forget about you. I’ve felt that. But now, I’ve kind of let that go. I just want to take my time and make something I’m proud of. We always try to keep it varied so the album tells a story – from heavy to vulnerable to just weird and experimental. That’s our vibe. We need the heavy stuff, but we also need the stuff that rips your heart out.

As for another Slaughterhouse sequel? We’ll have to wait and see…

Rarely do I go into a song thinking, ‘this is a sequel.’ It usually just clicks emotionally. I’m not opposed to part threes, but the original with Bryan [Garris] felt so solid that I don’t want to force it.

The band’s approach to digital platforms like TikTok is similarly unforced. While they’ve built a strong presence, Chris is quick to point out that it’s never been the cornerstone of their success.

It’s fun, sure. But we never built our identity on TikTok. MySpace, Facebook, Twitter – it’s just another tool. But you still have to do the real work.

And that “real work” is what he keeps circling back to – touring, grinding, building a live show that leaves people talking. You can have two million followers, but if you can’t sell 200 tickets, what does it even mean?

A Band Rooted in Grit

Motionless In White didn’t ride a trend. They didn’t explode overnight. They weren’t propped up by a viral moment or a label’s hype machine. They’ve built their career brick by brick, tour by tour, and song by song.

Looking back, Chris sees one major hurdle that defined their path – money.

Touring when you’re broke… it was just brutal Sleeping in freezing vans, stealing food from Walmart… That’s what it took. We learned everything from those years. That ache, that passion – it shaped who we are. And now, standing on these stages, looking out at thousands of people… it’s wild.

As the band looks toward another record and possibly even bigger shows, one thing’s clear: Motionless In White isn’t chasing anything. They’re building something. Slowly, deliberately, and without compromise.
