“It’s hard for me to place the songs as being part of that time. The songs, to me, are timeless. The songs are every bit as [relevant] today as they were 30 years ago. But I feel that way about a lot of the music I’ve loved throughout my life, and especially all the music we’ve made. I can think back to when I first heard ‘Come Out And Play’ on the radio and just thinking, ‘Whoa, what is this?
This is mind-blowing. This doesn’t happen to bands like us.’ That was a very exciting thing. And once we realized, ‘Hey, man, we’ve gotta pick up this ball and run with it. Let’s see. Maybe we can get a few years off playing music for a living.’ But I don’t think any of us thought 30 years later we would still be making music.”
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of “Smash,” The Offspring has announced a special concert scheduled for June 1 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The concert will feature a performance of the entire “Smash” album, alongside other hits from the band’s catalog. “Smash” is notable for singles such as “Come Out And Play” and “Self Esteem,” and has been certified six-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Currently, The Offspring is in the process of recording a new studio album with producer Bob Rock, known for his work with bands like Mötley Crüe and Metallica. Rock has previously produced three albums for The Offspring, including the 2021 release “Let The Bad Times Roll.” This album achieved significant success, charting highly across the globe and featuring prominently in both the U.S. and U.K. music charts.
The Offspring, originally formed under the name Manic Subsidal, includes members Bryan “Dexter” Holland (singer), Kevin “Noodles” Wasserman (guitarist), and Todd Morse (bassist). In an interview with The Georgia Straight, Holland shared insights into the band’s approach to punk rock songwriting. He emphasized their intention to elevate the quality of punk songs beyond what had been previously achieved by their predecessors, introducing a pop element to their music that has evolved over time.
