Primordial Radio is very excited to announce that Primus frontman and bassist Les Claypool will be taking part in the Radio Residency for the month of October.

Hosted by presenter Adam Whalley, Adam and Les dig deep into Primus over four decades, looking at the music that helped shape Claypool’s unique bass style and the band’s new era with drummer John “Hoffer” Hoffman and new track “The Ol’ Grizz.”

They also look at how we’ve changed the way we consume music, from buying 45s and digging through record stores to streaming, to the renaissance of vinyl and how AI is increasingly impacting musicians. Les looks back on his friendships with Rush, why he’s never really thought of himself as just a bass player, the importance of musicians having their own creative “thumbprint,” and why adapting to change has always been part of making a life in music.

Primus

Formed in El Sobrante, California, in 1984, Primus have been crafting one of the most distinctive sounds in alternative music, combining progressive rock, metal, funk and psychedelia with Les Claypool’s unmistakable bass playing and surreal storytelling.

The current lineup is Claypool, guitarist Larry “Ler” LaLonde and drummer John “Hoffer” Hoffman, who came on board after a long search for a new drummer by Primus. The band released the four-track EP A Handful of Nuggs in 2026, featuring the new track “The Ol’ Grizz.” Speaking with Primordial Radio, Claypool said the track is “the tip of the iceberg for the next album”, with the band planning to continue work on new material as soon as touring commitments allow.

Primus continue to draw from a career that includes landmark albums such as Frizzle Fry, Sailing the Seas of Cheese and Pork Soda, while pushing into their next chapter.
