The new single ‘Pray’ by VANA appears at a key moment in her artistic journey.
Coming out of Auckland, she gained international attention after teaching herself production and putting out music on her own, eventually joining renowned record label Sumerian Records.
In Pray, her style moves toward deeper, weightier tones, with gothic, introspective, and soul-searching ideas central to her vision. This new song signals a shift, not just sonically, but emotionally, as personal depth transforms into vivid storytelling.
Where Faith Collides With Psychosis
Pray starts where belief meets obsession. Religious pictures mix with sudden aggression, tied through ceremonial words, this mirrors VANA’s take on psychotic episodes. Growing up in a religious household undoubtedly shaped her symbolism. Images like angels or demons, thorns, sacred water, ecstasy aren’t about rescue, they show mental collapse. Instead of hiding that turmoil, she places it at the core of the story.
Speaking about Pray and signing with Sumerian, VANA stated:
This song stems from the idea of how it’d feel experiencing psychosis. Sonically, this song is just as chaotic as I’d imagine someone’s psyche would be if they were in a manic episode. Almost as if both the angel and the devil on your shoulders were both screaming in your ears at the same time.
Signing with Sumerian feels like I’ve found a label that understands my brain. They believed in ‘Pray’ the second they heard it, as well as in the world I want to create around my project. This song is the beginning of a whole cinematic universe I’ve been dying to create. I feel like I just joined the perfect team to help me make the chaos in my brain real. Launching ‘Pray’ with Sumerian already feels like the start of something huge, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve been cooking!
Pray, in essence, is about control and a study of power when the mind is at war with itself, using heavy music as a vessel for psychological storytelling.

VANA Pray Lyrics In Full
Intro
Yeah, you better pray to God (Pray to God, pray to God)
That I get what I want (What I want, what I want)
Yeah, the rapture has begun
Don’t you wanna fall to your knees
Make you say pretty please?
I’m a motherfucking God
Verse 1
Bow your fucking head
I need you to kiss the ground
Thorns on my head I think
I look better in a crown
I’ll give you time to repent when you’re dead
I’ll bury you
Face down
Pre-Chorus
Mania
Hysteria
Could you believe it, it’s a miracle
Sanctified
Demonised, I’m not sound of mind
I swear to God I’d never let you into paradise
Chorus
Yeah, you better pray to God (Pray to God, pray to God)
That I gеt what I want (What I want, what I want)
Yeah, the rapture has bеgun
Don’t you wanna fall to your knees
Make you say pretty please?
Baby I could be your God
Everything you’d ever want (What I want, what I want)
But you don’t deserve my love
I don’t have to make you believe just keep praying to me
Verse 2
They’ve been mistaking it as elegance
God only knows I’m reeking of malevolence (Malevolence)
Send me to heaven for the hell of it
So cut the lamb at the throat
And rid me of my innocence
Pre-Chorus
Holy water steams upon the silver cross hung upside down
I think I’m losing it
I think I’m losing it
(Josanna in the highest)
Chorus
Yeah, you better pray to God (Pray to God, pray to God)
That I get what I want (What I want, what I want)
Yeah, the rapture has begun
Don’t you wanna fall to your knees
Make you say pretty please?
Baby I could be your God
Everything you’d ever want (What I want, what I want)
But you don’t deserve my love
I don’t have to make you believe just keep praying to me
Bridge
Losing my, I’m L-losing my faith (I’m losing my mind)
Hysteria, I fear that you’re familiar
[Breakdown]
Fingernails full of dirt
And when you fell up from above
I hope it fucking hurt
Like tearing wings off from a dove
I’ll plague you with a curse
Like flowers rotting in the mud
I’ll put you in the earth
Say your prayers in reverse
I’ll scratch your name into the wood
That sits inside the hearse
Forgive me Mara
You’re about to count the fucking worms
And in the ground I’ll find out where you got the fucking nerve
Mmm mm, eat the dirt
Eat the fucking dirt
Outro
Yeah, you better pray to God
That I get what I want
Taste my body and my blood
I don’t have to make you believe just keep praying to me
What Pray Means for VANA’s Future
The meaning behind Pray emerges through a tale of flipped beliefs and psychotic thoughts. Rather than hiding the pain, it shapes disorder into bold creative form and marks VANA’s strongest move so far.
With nearly a million monthly listeners on Spotify and the ink still drying on her deal with Sumerian Records, 2026 looks like it could be a huge year for VANA as she embarks on this bold new area.
