Legendary rock guitarist Jeff Beck has sadly passed away at 78. A musical innovator and pioneer, his legacy includes his remarkable work with The Yardbirds as well as many other influential rock bands that he played in throughout his career.
A family statement posted on the musician’s official Twitter page read:
It is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing.
After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday.
His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.
KISS frontman Paul Stanley and bassist Gene Simmons have paid tribute to the rock star, with the latter saying “no one played like Jeff”.
Tony Iommi, guitarist for Black Sabbath also paid his tributes saying:
Jeff was such a nice person and an outstanding iconic, genius guitar player – there will never be another Jeff Beck
Beck burst onto the music scene as a member of the Yardbirds and then embarked on an eclectic solo career. His unique sound featured elements of hard rock, jazz, blues and opera – quite out-of-the-ordinary for any one artist.
What stood out particularly was his astounding ability to improvise with harmonics while playing the signature Fender Stratocaster guitar. His passionate playing touched millions and will be remembered as an essential part of musical history – he passed away at 78 years old.
