Discussing the creative process behind the song, Ken from Ferocious Dog explained:
“I’d had this idea for a song for quite a long time, with the four chord progression adding to a different upbeat style in a Major key and usually used for Happy songs. The catchy and amazing instrumental part was added by Sam Wood on accordion. We were trying lots of intricate Irish traditional tunes but nothing was really working. Sam Wood armed with his accordion says “just give me five minutes” and came back with this amazing instrumental piece that just transformed the song.
I did say that the tune was straight from the POGUES cookbook and I could see people jumping and dancing around with pints of Guinness held aloft on St Patrick’s Day celebrations with smiles on their faces, but the subject and meaning of the song, if one was to read the lyrics, is a really sad and tragic but uplifting anti war song. To add a bass instrumental, which was played and recorded superbly by Nick Wragg, was my nod to one of my favourite punk bands, RANCID and their bassist ‘Matt Freeman’.
I think that Blood Soaked Shores is a very different sound and energy for Ferocious Dog and their back catalogue of FOLK PUNK music and that is entirely down to the NEW band members putting their stamp on this amazing album.”
To mark the release of their thought-provoking album “Kleptocracy,” Ferocious Dog has announced a series of dates across the UK.
