YouTube extraordinaire Nik Nocturnal recently spoke to Pete Bailey from Primordial Radio about the explosion of his channel, reaction videos, TikTok, Lorna Shore, his Trap Metal project NIK NXK and more.

You won’t be a better Lorna Shore than Lorna Shore or a better Architects than Architects no matter how many times you use the Doomsday riff. 

I see a lot of bands trying to manufacture virality but also I feel like the metal scene isn’t as in tune with social media, marketing and virality yet, some of them are but there’s some bands that kick ass and are really good at marketing.

I give big props always to I Prevail and Our Last Night, they’re geniuses when it comes to marketing and virality, better than most YouTubers but most bands do not understand this stuff because this is not being a musician, this is being a content creator.

Since launching his YouTube channel in 2014, Nik Nocturnal has worked tirelessly on content, bringing his idiosyncratic and passionate take on metal to everything that he does, making it clear that the music matters to him – and his irreverent sense of humour does not hurt.

NIK NXK (Nik Nocturnal’s trap metal moniker) recently released the controversial “INDUSTRY” – a track that takes aim at the exploitative practices of the music business.

Nik comments:

INDUSTRY isn’t directed at anyone specific. It’s just the long-told tale of artists getting absolutely destroyed by parts of the music industry – that make them give up any unique talent and potential they have to live their dream – in exchange for broken promises that further grow the power the industry has on artists.
