In a recent Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Reddit, Josh Homme, the frontman of Queens of the Stone Age, discussed the potential for a reunion of the supergroup Them Crooked Vultures. Responding to a fan’s inquiry about the possibility of recording a new album, Homme revealed his enthusiasm for reassembling the band, albeit noting that the decision wasn’t solely his to make.

“It’s sort of not my job to put Vultures back together, that’s Dave [Grohl]’s job. My job is to dance around, write words, and try to write some music,” Homme explained, emphasizing his role within the group and the collaborative dynamics at play.

Despite the logistical challenges, Homme expressed a keen desire for the band to reconvene, stating…

“I really want to — Dave knows this. I really want Vultures to get back together and do one more round” he said, reflecting on the unique chemistry and creative fulfilment he experienced with the band.

Them Crooked Vultures, comprising Homme, Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters, John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, and Alain Johannes, debuted their only album in November 2009. Following an extensive tour, the group disbanded in 2010, only to briefly reunite for the Taylor Hawkins tribute concerts in Los Angeles and London in 2022.

Homme praised the distinctiveness and creativity of the band’s music and the seamless collaboration among its members, stating:

“The band is so strange, the music is so strange and perverse… The playing is so simple, you’re able to just get into ideas right away and they just happen. And that is a bit addictive, that environment.”

In his concluding remarks, Homme addressed the possibility of a reunion with cautious optimism:

“Is there any chance? Yeah, but I like that it’s not up to me. Is it a good chance? No,” he said, hinting at the complex factors that would influence such a decision.

Dave Grohl, in 2021, also expressed his hope for the group’s revival:

“I hope that someday we do it again,” he mentioned. However, Grohl’s commitments with Foo Fighters and Homme’s upcoming tours with Queens of the Stone Age pose additional scheduling hurdles for a Them Crooked Vultures reunion.

The prospect of Them Crooked Vultures coming together once again remains uncertain, with the members’ busy schedules and individual projects. Nevertheless, the shared interest and fond memories of their collaboration leave a glimmer of hope for fans eagerly awaiting their return.
