The film industry is set to welcome the 2024 remake of “The Crow,” generating considerable interest and debate among audiences. The project casts Bill Skarsgård in the lead role of Eric Draven/The Crow, a part famously played by the late Brandon Lee in the 1994 original.

Alongside Skarsgård, R&B artist FKA Twigs takes on the role of Shelly Webster, Draven’s lover, marking a notable casting choice that adds new dynamics to the story.

Ozzy Osbourne Provides The Crow Soundtrack

Directed by Rupert Sanders, with a background in visually compelling films such as “Snow White And The Huntsman” and “Ghost In The Shell,” the remake is penned by Zach Baylin, known for his Oscar-nominated work on “King Richard.” The film aims to bridge the past and present, maintaining the original’s connection to alternative music by featuring “Take What You Want,” a collaboration between Ozzy Osbourne and Post Malone, within its soundtrack.

Speaking to Bloody Disgusting, Skarsgård has spoken about what drew him to the role of Draven, thus replacing Lee.

“I was a huge fan of the original film growing up as a kid and was so honoured to take on the role of Eric Draven,” he said.

“But really what drew me to it was what Rupert Sanders wanted to do with it. He wanted to completely reimagine the story and the character and tailor it towards a modern audience. It’s a character that I know many revere and have a strong connection to – he is unlike any I’ve ever taken on before.

“Working with the remarkably talented FKA Twigs was magical. I felt a responsibility to Eric’s story and endeavoured to stay true to the spirit of the source material; I can’t wait for the world to see the film, and hope it resonates with audiences as strongly as it did with those of us involved.”

The decision to remake “The Crow” has sparked discussions on the legacy of the original film and its place in cinema history, especially considering its association with Brandon Lee.

The release of the new trailer so far has been met with mixed reactions with Alex Proyas, the director of the original “The Crow,” humorously commenting on the first glimpse of Skarsgård as Draven, likening it to “Eric Draven’s having a bad hair day.”

As the film industry often revisits classic stories for new audiences, the remake of “The Crow” represents both the challenges and opportunities in modern filmmaking. With a dedicated cast and crew, the project aims to pay homage to the original while seeking to connect with contemporary viewers, adding a new chapter to the story’s legacy.
