International Women’s Day (IWD)

Wednesday 8 March is a rather important date on the calendar (check your Primordial calendar – see its right there) … That’s right Fam it’s International Women’s Day and we couldn’t let the day pass by without taking the opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful ladies in our lives… our family members, friends, fellow Fam members, inspiring female icons from the world of rock and metal. You get the idea…

This year’s theme is Embrace Equity. The aim of the #EmbraceEquity campaign is to get the world talking about Why equal opportunities aren’t enough. Find out more about the difference between equality and equity.

A few words from Tash, the Chair of Primordial Radio’s Equality Advisory Group (EAG)…

Some people may wonder why we still mark International Women’s Day in 2023. Well, it’s still important because although we’ve made a lot of progress, as this year’s theme emphasises ‘true inclusion and belonging require equitable action’. This is something we strive to build into our work supporting Primordial as EAG.

IWD is also a great opportunity to celebrate amazing women and their achievements, to make sure girls and young women have inspirational role models to look up to and know they can do anything they want to.

There are so many incredible female artists in rock and metal, from Blondie to Siouxsie and the Banshees, to No Doubt and Brody Dalle. Primordial is introducing me to many new and emerging talents as well – Rews, Marisa and the Moths, Fury, Insurgent, Raised by Wolves – all bands who are playing at the Primordial General Mayhem next month.

To see so many women in rock and metal smashing it at the moment is amazing, and the impact it will have on the future of the genre cannot be underestimated. This IWD I will be listening to all my favourite female artists and celebrating the inspirational women I’m very lucky to have in my life.
