International Women’s Day (IWD)
Friday 8 March is a rather important date on the calendar (check your Primordial calendar – see its right there) … That’s right Fam it’s International Women’s Day and we couldn’t let the day pass by without taking the opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful ladies in our lives… our family members, friends, fellow Fam members, inspiring female icons from the world of rock and metal. You get the idea…
It is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women*.
IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911. It is a great opportunity to celebrate amazing women and their achievements, to make sure that girls and young women have inspirational role models to look up to and know they can do anything they want.
The campaign theme for 2024 is Inspire Inclusion.
“When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world. And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment.”
Many women in the world of rock and metal, in bands, in the industry, in our own community are those inspirational role models and we have great representation of women at the upcoming PGM with bands including St Agnes, Fury and As December Falls. So given this year’s theme we thought we would give a timely reminder that we do have a Safe Events Pledge and Code of Conduct for all Primordial events.
Why do we need a Safe Events Pledge and Code of Conduct?
We always say just because we make light of things does not mean we take things lightly…
We want Primordial events to be safe and inclusive for everyone, which means looking after yourself and fellow members of the Fam and always referring to rule 1 – Don’t be a Dick!
We are Serious about a Good Time because one of our pillars is FUN!
Our Safe Events Pledge outlines our commitment to harassment-free and inclusive events and our expectations of you. Our Code of Conduct addresses how we tackle harassment, bullying, abuse, and assault. It is a deterrent for potential perpetrators and to provide reassurance to everyone attending our events.
We want to make our events as safe and inclusive as possible so please read our Safe Gigs Pledge and Code of Conduct. Come and have fun but make sure that everyone else has fun too.
For IWD don’t forget we also have women and mental health information on our website. Visit the mental health hub to read about menopause and mental health and self-care tips for new mums.
*Before anyone asks… International Men’s Day is on Tuesday 19 November.
